Diving Site: Abu Helal
Ras Abu Helal, also referred to as “Little Canyon,” is another name for a crescent-shaped reef south of Abu Talha and is translated as “Headland of the Crescent Moon.” Because Abu Helal and Abu Talha can only be dived in ideal conditions during high tide, they are visited far less frequently than other sites, which keeps the corals in pristine condition. Both leisure and technical divers will find all they need at this site. About 12 metres deep, the reef encircles a small lagoon. A large ridge runs along its northern side, and there is a gently sloping bay outside. One of the best coral gardens in the Dahab region can be found at the beginning of this ridge, which serves as the dive site’s major attraction. Alternately, a deeper canyon dive in 30 to 40 metres is available.
